Courtney Devine is a Registered Social Worker. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Social Work from New York University in the United States. Courtney then continued her training, completing the Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology in New York City.
Courtney specializes in working with individuals who are dissatisfied with their lives or relationships yet struggle to achieve meaningful change or clarity on their own. Approaching therapy as a collaborative process, she helps her clients develop a better self-understanding so that they may guide themselves towards more authentic relationships and richer lives.
Considering a strong therapeutic relationship to be the heart of a successful therapy, Courtney strives to create a non-judgmental environment, so one may feel safe to examine the sensitive parts of the self. She also believes that adopting an attitude of curiosity and compassion towards oneself is central to the therapy process. By “making friends” with one’s issues, her clients can open themselves up to new insights and true self-discovery.
Courtney practices psychodynamic psychotherapy informed by CBT, interpersonal psychoanalysis and attachment theory. Typical areas of expertise include anxiety and depression; life transitions; interpersonal problems; relational trauma; and poor self-esteem. She also enjoys working with individuals who are struggling to navigate issues of early adulthood or other transitional periods.
