Dr. Amrita Ghai is a registered clinical psychologist with over 13 years of experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to adults. She earned her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology at York University. Dr. Ghai completed her pre-doctoral internship at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in the Eating Disorders Program, Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre, and Behavioural Medicine/Health Psychology Program. She received additional clinical training at the Toronto General Hospital (Eating Disorders Program), Ryerson University (Centre for Student Development and Counselling), and York University (Psychology Clinic). She has held positions of Post-Doctoral Fellow and Staff Psychologist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton where she was involved in research, clinical care, and training of graduate students and mental health professionals.
Dr. Ghai has specialized training in working with clients with eating disorders, body image concerns, and anxiety (OCD, social anxiety, panic, chronic worry, phobias). She also has extensive experience in helping clients to manage perfectionism, sleep issues, stress, depression, mood, and relationship difficulties. Additionally, she provides psychological support to clients coping with chronic illness, weight management, and grief.
Dr. Ghai works with clients in a collaborative, empathic, and non-judgmental manner. She employs evidence-based cognitive-behavioural and client-centered approaches within a sensitive and supportive environment in order to help clients achieve their therapy goals.
In addition to working in private practice, Dr. Ghai maintains an adjunct faculty appointment at McMaster University in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.
